Study Shows Perforated Eardrum Treated Successfully With Platelet Rich Plasma

According to a recent study completed by the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in Zagazig, Egypt, they were able to successfully treat a small perforated eardrum with platelet rich plasma in 21 of 25 patients.

All of the procedures were performed in an office setting. A perforated eardrum can occur from injury or infection. Symptoms include pain, discharge coming from the ear, and ringing sound coming from the ear.

Often times this condition will heal on its own with no treatment. However, if the hole does not heal, treatment may be necessary. This study is promising that using PRP to treat a perforated eardrum is a safe effective treatment for this condition.
